About Us

Bavaria-Saat GbR was founded in 1987 as a fusion of several traditional Bavarian potato cultivators, with partly more than 100 years of breeding experiences.

We produce approx. 15 varieties of potato - 10 of them are suitable for the food market. The salad-potato varieties Frieda, Sissi, Renate and Selma meet the highest standards. Our varieties with a predominantly firm consistency after cooking are characterized by solid yields especially in dry years (e.g. Juwel, Krone) or excel with very high resistances (e.g. Bettina).

Breeding stations in Bavaria and the healthy climate of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as well as cooperative partners on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein guarantee a high qualitative production of seed material.
A close cooperation with the Institut of Plant Production of the Bavarian Central Authority of Agriculture in Freising-Weihenstephan ensures that we will be able to answer future questions concerning potato breeding. Potato varieties breeded in Freising/Weihenstephan are selected and introduced in the market in cooperation with the Bayerische Pflanzenzuchtgesellschaft München (BPZ).

The Bavaria-Saat Zuchtbetriebs GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1993. It is in charge of the breeding station Stretense which is located in north-east Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in an area identified by the EU as healthy region for potato seed production.

Bavaria-Saat Vertriebs GmbH was founded in 2003 to sell exclusively the potato varieties breeded by Bavaria-Saat GbR on the domestic and export markets.
Another main focus of activity is the trade in table potatoes and onions throughout Europe. Great importance is placed on a long term and trustful cooperation with our business partners.

There followed in 2004 the foundation of the Romanian subsidiary Bavaria RO s.r.l. in a traditional potato-growing area east of Brasov (Kronstadt).
